Where To Sell Your Domain Names

cash in handSo that domain you registered a few years ago just doesn’t seem that cool anymore and you no longer want to pay the renewal fee for it. Well don’t just let it expire; someone else may want to pay you for it! That’s right, there’s hundreds of thousands of people out there that buy domains, and yours may be of interest to one of them! As explained in my previous article, Buying Registered Domain Names, people want to buy domains because:

  • The domain may already have pre-existing traffic. This means that you don’t have to waste time trying to get that initial wave of traffic to your site.
  • The domain may already be indexed in Google. If you don’t know what you’re doing, it could take several months before Google decides to index your site. But, if the domain is already indexed, you’re already set up to start receiving some search engine traffic.
  • The domain may already have backlinks. Backlinks means a higher search engine placement for your site in Google, and that will ultimately bring you traffic. Getting backlinks to your website, especially if it is brand new, can be difficult. But, if the site already has pre-existing backlinks, there’s no need to leap that hurdle.
  • The domain may already have established stats. Some stats that are looked upon as important are Google PageRank and Alexa or Compete rank. Buying a domain where these stats are already established eliminates another hurdle to leap. Sites with high PageRank are looked upon with authority.

Selling that domain of yours to someone who wants it benefits both you and the buyer because the buyer gets a domain they really want and you get paid for it. It’s a win-win situation!

So now that you see the benefits of selling your domain, it’s time to discuss where to find people wanting to buy domains. Here are some of the top places people go when they want to buy domains:

Digital Point – Hundreds of domains are bought and sold in Digital Point’s Domains sub-forum. Post a WTS (want to sell) thread and you’re bound to find a buyer!

DNForum – Being one of the top domaining forums, everyone who visits DNForum is interested in domain names. DNForum’s Platinum Forums is great for both buyers and sellers!

NamePros – NamePros is also one of the top domaining forums in the industry. You’re bound to find some buyers interested in your domain(s) in the Domains For Sale sub-forum.

SitePoint – SitePoint has one of the leading marketplaces to buy and sell domains, websites, web design services, and more. You’ll find many people wanting to buy domains in the Domain Name Classifieds.

eBay – As their slogan says, “You can find it on eBay!”; even domains! That’s why every day people go searching through the Domain Names sub-category on eBay to find the perfect domain for them!

Good luck on selling your domain!
